Musical Theater Creation

Ernest & Victoria

In 1924, Ernest Ansermet traveled to Buenos Aires. Argentine musicians who wanted to establish a symphony orchestra called upon the young Swiss conductor and hired him for the season. The program's success was unexpected and considerable.

Among the audience was Victoria Ocampo, a young woman who rushed to the concert out of love for Debussy. Multilingual and highly educated, she conversed with the greatest international intellectuals and artists of her time.

The next day, she sent Ansermet an invitation: a simple note that marked the beginning of a correspondence that would extend for over forty years.

This correspondence will be staged and accompanied by works drawn from the repertoire that Ansermet conducted in Buenos Aires to pay tribute to a great story of friendship, culture, and creativity, and to the ties that Ernest Ansermet and Victoria Ocampo maintained with José Luis Borges, Igor Stravinsky, and Rabindranath Tagore.
